Artist Statement
I often begin with objects, whether found in nature or collected over time. In the studio, with a quiet mind and slow hand, I make connections both physical and metaphorical with the gathered material that appear there.
With an early career as a weaver and teacher, and later through my continued research into contemporary craft practices, I have spent a life-time thinking and making hand-crafted objects.
Narratives between found and made objects, particularly with reference to rural histories form an important aspect of my working process. Placing the work as an installation, alongside archival photographs continues this articulation. Engaging with place, gathering nature, threading, knotting, binding, weaving and stitch find a way into my improvised and intuitive form of making.
