Lighting My Path 2023

Honesty seed pods, grass, wire, rock salt

Shown as part of the Edgelands exhibition with PRISM Art Textiles, The Pavilions, London.

Coming across the translucent seedpods of the honesty plant is a wonderful encounter. Steeped in folklore and childhood memories, it is both remarkable and robust; it’s delicate beauty shines when found amongst tangled thorn, nettles and litter within dim corners of local waste land.

Moon-like Lunaria annua, so familiar from childhood, is natures perfect wayfinder. It lights up neglected corners along forgotten pathways, scattering it’s seeds along ginnels and snickets, tracing the shortcut out of town and the passageways along fields to the local hostelry.

All that is stepped upon carries a trace of our path, every seed, grain of soil, leaf, grain of sand, rock and stone. Honesty seeds spread beautifully in the most forgotten corners telling the story of pathways through woodland and wasteland walks, their seedpods lighting up the dreariest of neglected corners.
